Since 2012
Care regardless of the ability to pay
Netram Eye Foundation has organised charitable eye and health camps since 2012, across Delhi and the rest of India, and was registered as an all-India society in 2013. It is the organisation I chose to work through when I left corporate practice: treatment for the underserved, in the most difficult terrain, with medicines, spectacles and surgery provided free where they cannot be paid for.
Along the way we have built a network of partners in government, industry and the community, and run projects across 24 states.

Projects
Eight programmes, one mission
Each one answers a gap in care: children who have never had an eye test, drivers who cannot see the road, patients who cannot reach a hospital.

Project Roshini
With Indraprastha Gas Limited. More than one lakh school children screened across Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan.
Screening for refractive error, with awareness sessions on anaemia and mental health, and around 28,000 pairs of spectacles given out. Named Best Project in Community Health at the India CSR Leadership Summit, 2019.

Eye Mela
5,00,000 beneficiaries in 24 states. Eye and general health camps in the most difficult terrain.

Chashma Bus
Delhi NCR, since October 2020. A complete eye-care solution on wheels for people who cannot reach a hospital.
Near-vision and prescription glasses, screening, and referral of complex cases, including phacoemulsification cataract surgery at very low cost. It has run without outside funding since it began.

Mission 6/6
With Delhi Police. Eye check-up camps inside police stations for the men and women in uniform, with free spectacles.

I Am 6/6
Road safety. A structured programme for truck and commercial drivers at their depots, correcting eyesight with the right spectacles to reduce the toll of road accidents.

Transgender Medical Camp
With the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. India's first mental health helpline for transgender persons.
Started during the Covid pandemic when daily-wage work stopped, in association with NBCFDC and with the transgender activist Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Laxmi Narayan Tripathi.
